Failing to attend / failing to cancel appointments

From Nov 2020 to the end of Feb 2021 419 appointments were wasted due to patients failing to attend / failing to cancel their appointment.

Please note: unwanted appointments can be cancelled in the following ways:

  • Face to face (GP surgery)
  • By telephone
  • Cancelling via text when you receive an appointment reminder
  • Cancel via ‘patient access’ – (online appointment booking)

Please always cancel unwanted appointments as they can be used by other patients who need to see a GP/Nurse

GP Earnings

NHS England require that the net earnings of doctors engaged in the practice is publicised and the required disclosure is shown below.   However, it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice and should not be used to for any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make any comparisons with other practices.  The average earnings for GPs working in the Hetton Group Practice in the last financial year ending in 2019/20 was £117,083 before taxation and National Insurance.  This is for 1 full time GP, 5 part time GPs and 1 locum GP who worked in the practice for more than 6 months.

Flu eligibility – 2020

Please note that people in the 50-64 year old age group will not be vaccinated until November and December, providing there is sufficient vaccine, and no appointments will be offered for this age group until then.

This is to ensure that those who are most at risk are vaccinated first.

If you are 50-64 and you are in one of the other groups which is eligible for the flu vaccination, for example you have a health condition which puts you at risk from the flu, you will be invited earlier.

Face Coverings when attending surgery.

Can we please advise the following to all patients attending the surgery:

  • Patients to wear a suitable face covering e.g. face mask / scarf etc. when attending the practice.
  • Patients please attend just before your appointment time to avoid sitting around and observe social distancing when possible.
  • Patients to attends appointments alone (there will be some exceptions to this rule, check when booking appointment if unsure)
  • Patients will also be asked not to take their face covering off until told to by a clinician or when they have exited the building.

Thank you for your co operation
